The most common way to obtain US citizenship (other than birth in the US) is to apply for naturalization. For most foreign nationals, five years of US permanent residence is required (this period is shortened to three years if the applicant has been married for three years to a US citizen). There are requirements as to the periods of residence and physical presence in the US and in the district where the application is filed. There is also an interview (test) of reading, writing, and speaking the English language, and of the history and principles of US government.
Upon swearing-in for US citizenship, the applicant has achieved the ultimate goal of citizenship which is sought by so many people.
Our office offers consultations about the naturalization process, and we also offer full-service representation throughout the naturalization application and interview process.
