The L-1 visa category includes foreign nationals who are employed by a parent, subsidiary, or affiliate company abroad for a period of one year or more in an executive or managerial position or in a position which requires specialized knowledge. These employees can transfer to the United States to work for the U.S. company. This is accomplished in a manner similar to the H-1B procedure. This period of admission is up to three years and can be extended to five years total for specialized knowledge employees, and seven years total for executives and managers.
